The stone waterfall and castle of Šomoška (Hungarian: Somoskő) are located on the Slovak-Hungarian border, between Salgótarján and Fiľakovo.
The stone waterfall originated 4 million years ago from bazalt lava that ardened in the crater of the former volcano under the earth surface. The basaltic jointing originates in slow lava cooling and charasteric for basalt. Such a bent form, as can be seen here is unique in Europe.
The stone waterfall of basaltic flow is about 9 meters high, with rounded lava top and beautifully bent vertical stripes coming down.
